Tomorrow’s starting now

“No more broken promises
No more call to war
Unless it’s love and peace that we’re really fighting for
We can destroy hunger
We can conquer hate
Put down the arms and raise your voice
We’re joining hands today.”

-”If You’re Out There,” John Legend

It may sound a bit silly, but this week, I have new faith in society. Although I had hoped that Barack Obama would become president, I never quite believed that it would actually happen.

Since I really became interested in politics in late high school, I have seen my hopes raised up and then taken down on Election Day. For eight years, I’ve been disappointed, wondering what it would have been like if the other guy had won. Now it’s time for a new guy to have a chance. He’s completely different than anyone we have seen in my lifetime.

I also feel new hope for my generation. I had always thought people my age simply didn’t care; they were apathetic to what’s going on, even while people our age were being sent off to fight overseas. But it seems like there finally might have been a generational shift. A new generation of people have finally taken the reins.

I really do hope that Obama lives up to all of the hopes and dreams people have for him. Yes, he will make mistakes, but I think that already, things are looking a little bit brighter. People have hope again and dreams for the future.

I agree, Laura! He’s energized our generation! It’s awesome. My mom absolutely loves him, calling this the “second most important election” in her lifetime. The first probably being Kennedy. I mean, you can’t help but compare the two. Revolutionary. There’s so much hope brimming in all of us right now. The most since eight years ago.
